# Slack

> Connect your Slack workspace so agents and workflows can read and send messages.

**Connection type:** Credential

Connect your Slack workspace to SubVerse. Your Functions and Orchestrations can post messages, reply in threads, and read what's been said in a channel. A Slack event can also start an orchestration.

## What you can do

| Capability | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Send messages** | Post to a channel or send a direct message, for example to alert your team about a conversation that needs attention. |
| **Reply in a thread** | Keep related updates together under the original message. |
| **Read messages** | Read a channel's recent messages, so an agent or workflow can act on what was said. |
| **React to Slack events** | Start an orchestration when something happens in Slack, such as a new message. |

## Credential types

| Credential type | Best for |
| - | - |
| **Slack OAuth2 API** | Most connections. Select **Connect with Slack** and approve access. Nothing to set up in Slack. |
| **Slack API** | Your own Slack app, when you want your own bot name and icon |

## What you'll need

* A Slack workspace, and permission to add an app to it
* For your own app, access to the Slack API dashboard to create it

<Note>
Step-by-step setup is in the SubVerse dashboard: go to **Integrations → Slack** and open the **Documentation** tab.
